After almost two months away from their home ice, the Coyotes returned to Memorial Arena last weekend to face two conference teams, the Selkrik Saints and the Trinity Western Spartans. The match up between the Saints and the Coyotes kicked off the weekend on Friday. It was a shutout for the Coyotes with a 6-0 win over the Saints. The first period proved to be a battle with many opportunities for both team. Craig Materi was the lone scorer in the first period scoring on a pass from Brock Munro and Derek Liebel. The rest of the game was a different story. The Coyotes came out blazing in the second period and never looked back. Brock Munro started the scoring only 33 seconds into the second period on a pass from Kyle Fraser. Two minutes later Brady Mason scored on a power play possession from Jordan Urban and Munro. With 3 minutes left in the second, Keagan Little netted one in with help from Dekker Mende and Sasha Golin. In the 15th minute of the 3rd period, both Brady Mason and Luc Blinkhorn added points to the game sheet to solidify a Coyotes victory.
Saturday’s game against Trinity Western Spartans seemed like a continuation of Friday night. The Coyotes were still riding the wave of the previous night’s offensive explosion and netted 8 goals throughout the game to beat the Spartans 8-3. Brock Munro and Dave Nesbitt scored early in the first period to get the game rolling. Also adding goals for the Coyotes were Luc Blinkhorn, Sasha Golin, Dave Mann, and James Neitsch.
The Coyotes will be traveling to Abbotsford this Saturday where they look to continue their winning streak and crush the University of Fraser Valley. Then they will be back in action in Kelowna the following weekend with games on Friday, February 2nd at 9:45pm and Saturday, February 3rd at 9:15. We hope to see you all there!
